Research Interests:
My interests deal mostly with the biology of terrestrial pulmonate gastropods, particularly those of the southwestern desert regions of North America. My principal focus has been in the areas of systematics, zoogeography, and the functional morphology of the reproductive system. With regard to the latter, my work has centered on the histology and ultrastructure of the reproductive systems and relating these structural considerations to the functions of the various organs in those systems. These animals are functional hermaphrodites and have relatively elaborate reproductive systems. The main groups I focus on are members of the families polygyridae and helminthoglyptidae. Additionally I have an interest in the morphology and ultrastructure of cell types in general with recent work in reproductive systems in rats.
