Research Interests:

My research goal is to probe the biological mechanisms underlying aging and calorie restriction (CR).  I am attempting to employ novel molecular biological approaches (gene expression arrays) that seem likely to undercover altered pattern of gene expression in mice and rats under CR.  Finding differences in gene expression between ad libitum fed and CR animals may give clues to the question, “how does aging happen?”  The answer to this question is my ultimate research goal.  I have been awarded two grants, a National Institute of Health grant (1 KO1 AG00746) to study genes to acutely responsive to CR and a National Institute of Health grant (SG 5 PO1 AG14674) to study altered gene expression in transgenic mice which mimic the CR traits.
